Spotlight on Butcher & Barlow’s Northwich branch

Northwich is a historic market town with roots dating back to Roman times, when it was known as “Condate” and served as a key hub for salt production. The town’s salt mining legacy is celebrated at the Lion Salt Works Museum, while Victorian innovation is showcased at the Anderton Boat Lift – an iconic “Cathedral of the Canals” that continues to draw visitors today. Modern Northwich combines its rich history with a vibrant community, offering attractions like the Barons Quay shopping centre, regular artisan markets, and picturesque outdoor spaces such as Weaver Way and Marbury Country Park.

Butcher & Barlow have had a presence in Northwich for coming up to 30 years. The office is located on London Road, partially housed in a black and white timber building constructed during the Victorian era as part of the Tudor Revival style. This architectural approach blends historical charm with modern functionality, reflecting the town’s enduring connection to its heritage.

The Team

The Team at the Northwich, London Road office is headed by Partner and Dispute Resolution specialist Greg Porter. Greg has been based at the Northwich office for 15 years, and advises clients on all manner of disputes, from personal injury claims, to property issues, to business partnership disputes. Greg is also an accredited Clinical Negligence solicitor on the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Panel.

Working along side Greg are Associates Alex Williams and Kimberley Alcock and Partner, Tim Bailey.

Alex, a Specialist Accredited Family Law Solicitor with Resolution for Domestic Abuse and Complex Financial Remedies Family Law specialist, joined the Northwich team in 2024 to develop the Northwich family offering after a period of time working at our Frodsham office.  Alex specialises in all aspects of family law, including cases involving farming properties or businesses, and is dedicated to providing clear and practical advice tailored to each client’s needs.

Kimberly joined the Butcher & Barlow Team in 2020 and has since built a strong rapport with other local property professionals including estate agents, valuers and fellow lawyers. Known for her empathy and understanding, Kimberley ensures the house-moving process is as smooth and stress-free as possible, delivering a personal and friendly service.

Tim leads the Wills, Trusts and Estates Team, supported by Emily Cliffe. Tim, recognised as a Leading Partner by the Legal 500, provides advice on estate planning for both straightforward and complex circumstances. His expertise ensures that clients can manage their wealth effectively, both during their lifetime and for future generations.
