Twelve Months Of Community Support
Butcher & Barlow understand that supporting local clubs, charities and good causes is important. Whether it’s personal fundraising efforts, volunteering, sponsorship of local community clubs or attending charity events, we are proud to support causes that are local to our offices and in the hearts of our team members. Let’s take a look at some of the initiatives we have supported in 2023.
March – The Northwich Swimathon sponsorship
The Northwich Swimathon occurs annually, generating funds for local charities and worthwhile causes supported by the Northwich Rotary. Unlike a competitive race, the event involves teams of swimmers swimming lengths of the pool as a relay, combining fundraising efforts with having fun. As well as being co-sponsors of the event, a team of five swimming Solicitors from Butcher & Barlow took part raising £208, and the Firm generously matched the donations, resulting in a total fundraising amount of £416.
March – Azets Charity Quiz
A team of four from Butcher & Barlow took part in a charity quiz organised by Accountants and business advisory group Azets. Funds raised from the event were dedicated to supporting Reuben’s Retreat, an organisation that assists families dealing with complex health challenges in children and those who have experienced child loss.
May – Bramhall Lane Tennis club open dayButcher & Barlow joined in the club’s annual open day, hosting a stand to meet and greet attendees and offering a chance to take park in our free prize draw to win a hamper of treats. Bramhall Lane Tennis Club, located near our Bramhall office, is a club we have proudly sponsored since 2012. The open day is an annual event at which the club showcases the facilities they have on offer as well as putting on fun activities such as cardio tennis, a fastest serve competition and a delicious BBQ.
May – Prestwich Clough day sponsorship
The annual Prestwich Clough day was initiated in 2006 and was originally a one off event to celebrate the Centenary of the Clough being handed over to the public. The event was such a success it is now an annual event with a vast array of activities to entertain all members of the family. Whilst we have sponsored the event for several years, this was the first time we had our own stand where people could come and say hi and enter our free prize draw to win a hamper of treats.
May – Ramsbottom Duck Race and Bramhall & Woodford Duck Race
The yearly Duck Races, organised by the Ramsbottom Rotary Club and the Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club, offer a wonderful chance for local communities to come together and enjoy family-oriented entertainment while supporting fundraising initiatives for nearby charities and meaningful causes.
Our Bury office joined in the Ramsbottom Duck Race by entering their very own duck named Daisy. Daisy kicked off with enthusiasm but unexpectedly altered course, deciding to head in the opposite direction as the race progressed.
Our Bramhall office took part in the Bramhall and Woodford Duck Race entering their own duck named Elvis. Elvis showcased commendable effort, surpassing all but one competitor and securing an impressive second place in his race.
May – Donation of a prize hamper to the Red Bull Inn, Kingsley open day
Butcher & Barlow donated a hamper to a raffle arranged by the Red Bull Inn in Kingsley Frodsham. Funds raised by the raffle were donated to local Scouting and Guiding groups as part of the Red Bull’s annual spring fair.
May – Bramhall Cricket Club bottle donation
Butcher & Barlow are proud to sponsor the Bramhall Cricket Club Juniors for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. We were delighted to contribute a bottle of Gin for the club’s Australia-themed night. Established in 1886, Bramhall Cricket Club boasts a rich history of fostering competitive cricket within a welcoming and friendly environment.
June – Lord’s Taverners Charity cricket day
Some of our team, accompanied by our clients, attended a day of Charity Cricket hosted by Lord Taveners, a youth cricket and disability charity. This event took place at the stunning Cholmondeley Castle. Funds raised during the event aim to support the empowerment of young individuals with disabilities and those from underprivileged backgrounds through the Lord’s Taverners cricket program.
July – Northwich River festival
The Northwich River festival is a fun community day for all the family organised by the Northwich Rotary club raising funds for local good causes. The event hosts an array of activities including river dragon boat and duck races. Butcher & Barlow were proud sponsors of the semi-final duck race.
August – Sandbach 10k
For nine consecutive years, we’ve taken pride in sponsoring the Sandbach 10k and were headline sponsors again this year. We also held a free prize draw for a chance to win a hamper full of goodies. Furthermore, five members of the Butcher & Barlow team donned their running shoes and took part in the race, showcasing great effort and all finishing with commendable times.
The event was another huge success with £2268 raised for Chance Changing Lives, the organisers of the event, Sandbach Striders Running Club, chosen charity for 2023.
September – Macmillan coffee morning
Our Bury, Bramhall and Sandbach offices are all took part in this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning helping to raise vital funds for the charity. We raised an incredible £581.81.
September – Breightmet Football Club
Butcher & Barlow played a part in supporting the fundraising efforts of Breightmet FC, contributing to an initiative aimed at securing funds for the U14’s team kit. We take pride in giving back to local community groups, especially those with which we share a connection through our dedicated team members.
October – Bury 10k (In aid of The Bury Hospice)
Several of our team at our Head Office in Bury laced up their running shoes to take part in the Bury 10k in aid of local charity, The Bury Hospice. With some of our team members having experienced first-hand the incredible support provided by the Bury Hospice for their relatives, we understand how valuable the work they do and the services they provide is. Through our teams fundraising efforts the Bury Hospice received £1555 in donations.
October – Cancer research charity night
Butcher & Barlow’s head office team attended ‘A night at the Oscars’ charity ball. The event was organised by insurance brokers Munro Greenhalgh LTD with all proceeds from the event going to support Cancer Research.
October – St Luke’s Will week.
Throughout St Luke’s Will week, a number of Butcher & Barlow’s Wills specialists generously waived their standard fees for writing a Will. Instead, they requested a donation to St Luke’s. St Luke Hospice is a charity that provide a range of services to support people living with life limiting illnesses.
November – Will Aid
We have been taking part in the Will Aid charity Will writing scheme for 26 years and over this time have raised a staggering £80,972, the 11th highest total ever. The Wills, Trusts and Estates team are proud to have been able to do their bit over the years to support Will Aid and raise much needed funds for the worthy charities.
November – Exchange Chambers Charity Dinner
Members of the Butcher & Barlow Family team attended the Exchange Chambers charity dinner in aid of Friends of Rosie. Organised by Exchange Chambers, the event’s entire proceeds were dedicated to supporting Friends of Rosie, a volunteer-led charity committed to raising funds for life-saving treatments and research for children battling cancer.
November – The Bury Beer Festival sponsorship
We were proud to sponsor the Bury Festival, a community event we’ve supported for several years. This annual celebration not only raises funds to bolster local communities but also offers attendees the opportunity to savour some of Bury’s exceptional locally brewed beer and indulge in a diverse range of entertainment over the course of the two-day event.
December – Cheshire Young Farmers Advent initiative
Butcher & Barlow supported the Cheshire Young Farmers Dairy Queen team’s advent prize draw by donating a day out at the Ice Cream Farm as one of the prizes. The proceeds generated from the raffle ticket sales were donated to The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, a nationally acclaimed charity that has been providing guidance, financial assistance, and practical care to farming individuals of all ages across generations.
December – Be a Santa
Our Gadbrook Park office took part in Home Instead Northwich and Knutsford ‘be a Santa’ campaign collecting gifts for older people in the community who are isolated or lonely at Christmas.
December – Christmas Jumper Day
All our 11 offices took part in the 2023 Christmas jumper day raising funds for Save the Children, a charity whose aim is to make sure children keep safe, healthy and learning not just in the UK but all around the world.
December – WIB Networking event
Amanda O’Hare, Residential property specialist attended the Warrington Women in Business networking Christmas lunch networking event and donated a ‘all things Christmas’ hamper to a charity raffle on behalf of Butcher & Barlow. Funds raised from the sale of raffle tickets sold were donated to CanSupport who are based at The Delamere Centre at Halton Hospital. CanSupport is a very small charity with a few dedicated volunteers who aim to make the life of those receiving chemotherapy just a little easier.
December – Weaverham FC
We are delighted to be sponsors of the Weaverham FC Juniors for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Weaverham Football Club has a great history and reputation for playing fair, developing players and being community orientated. It is one of the oldest clubs in Cheshire and has over 150 children playing across Cheshire and Manchester.
Butcher & Barlow donated a sweet bomb for the clubs Christmas raffle. The raffle is a way of raising funds to support the running of the community club.
December – Support of six Charity and Community initiated Christmas appeals.
The teams in each of our offices chose a local charity or community initiated Christmas appeal to support. Six charities or community groups received donations to their causes that were all aimed at supporting people that would not have had a Christmas dinner, gift, food or safe place to stay this Christmas. We supported:
- The Salvation Army Northwich,
- Symphony Hospitality Catering community initiative,
- Halton SKIES community initiative,
- The Wellspring, Stockport,
- The Homeless Support Project,
- St John and St Mark Church.
