Twelve months of Community Support – 2024
At Butcher & Barlow, we believe in supporting our local communities. Whether it is personal fundraising efforts, volunteering, sponsorship of local community clubs or attending charity events, we are proud to support local causes and initiatives that resonate with our Team. We take a look back at what we have supported in 2024.
January – Halton Haven Hospice Make a Will Week
Wills, Trusts and Estates specialist Ben Davenport-Lawton waived his standard fee for writing a Will in exchange for a donation to the Halton Haven Hospice.
Halton Haven Hospice provides invaluable support for people living with life-limiting illnesses, offering safe, specialist end-of-life care while supporting patients and their families during challenging times.
March – Bury Hospice Make a Will Month
A number of our Wills specialists at our Bury office generously waived their standard fees for writing a Will in exchange for a donation to the Bury Hospice.
Since opening its doors in 1991, The Bury Hospice has delivered exceptional palliative and end-of-life care to thousands of patients and their families.
March – Halton Haven Hospice Easter Egg Donation
The Firm donated 24 Easter Eggs to the patients at the Halton Haven Hospice.
March – Northwich Swimathon
The Northwich Swimathon, organised by the Northwich Rotary, occurs annually, generating funds for local charities and worthwhile causes the Rotary support. Unlike a competitive race, the event involves teams of swimmers swimming lengths of the pool as a relay, combining fundraising efforts with having fun. As well as being co-sponsors of the event with CRS Consultants Ltd, a team of four swimming Solicitors from Butcher & Barlow took part raising £160, and the Firm generously matched the donations, resulting in a total fundraising amount of £320.
April – Cheshire Young Farmers sponsor county dinner dance.
We supported the Cheshire Young Farmer’s by sponsoring a table at their annual dinner dance, bringing together members of the club to celebrate their achievements over the past year.
The Cheshire Young Farmers’ Club overseas a body of 11 Young Farmers’ Clubs in Cheshire dedicated to supporting young people in agriculture and the countryside. The club offers their members a wealth of new experiences and opportunities for personal development and achievement, a much needed social and educational network and a safe environment for activities.
April – Sponsorship at Sandbach Train station.
Friends of Sandbach Station is a group of volunteers aiming to make the Sandbach Train Station a more welcoming and passenger-friendly place. The group have won a number of accolades in the Best Kept Station Awards. We are proud to support the group by sponsoring a floral display on the platform.
April – Attended Joseph Holt 175th Charity Auction.
Members of our Team, attended a charity auction hosted by the Joseph Holt Brewery. This event took place at the Emirates Old Trafford. Funds raised during the event contributed to the Christie £500,000 appeal with all the money raised going towards providing a reception area for the new Advanced Oncology Scanning Department that The Christie are building.
May – Cheshire Young Farmers Rally Day Sponsorship.
The Cheshire Young Farmer’s annual Rally Day is an action-packed day which demonstrates what the Cheshire Young Farmers is all about. This year, Butcher & Barlow were sponsors of the cross-country run.
May – Prestwich Clough Day
The annual Prestwich Clough Day was initiated in 2006 and was originally a one off event to celebrate the Centenary of the Clough being handed over to the public. The event was such a success it is now held annually with a vast array of activities to entertain all members of the family. Butcher & Barlow have sponsored the event for several years, and for the second year had our own stand where people could come and say hello and enter our free prize draw to win a hamper of treats.
May – Bramhall Duck Race
The yearly Duck Race, organised by the Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club, offers a wonderful chance for the local community to come together and enjoy family-oriented entertainment while supporting fundraising initiatives for nearby charities and meaningful causes.
Our Bramhall office took part in the race entering their own duck named Captain Quack Sparrow. Unfortunately, Captain Quack Sparrow didn’t bring home any medals. This year we also sponsored a race – The Butcher & Barlow’s Quacky Races.
May – Bramhall Bash
We were delighted to support the Bramhall Cricket Club’s third Bramhall Bash with sponsorship of the Clubhouse Afternoon Tea.
Players from Bramhall CC faced off against the PCA England Legends team, featuring cricket stars Ryan Sidebottom, Phil Defreitas, Adam Hollioake, Glen Chapple, Phil Mustard, and Alex Tudor (aka Captain 99).
The event is held to raise funds for the 1000 Hearts for Harry charity which provides free heart screenings for 14-35 year olds to help detect and treat heart defects: https://1000heartsforharry.com/
June – Elton & Walshaw FC fundraiser
As sponsors of the Elton & Walshaw FC Butcher & Barlow donated an Amazon voucher for their summer fundraiser raffle. Funds raised by the raffle contributed towards the club’s fundraiser for a new lawnmower.
June – Lord Taveners Charity Cricket Day
Some of our team, accompanied by our clients, attended a day of Charity Cricket hosted by Lord Taveners, a youth cricket and disability charity. This event took place at the stunning Cholmondeley Castle. Funds raised during the event aim to support the empowerment of young individuals with disabilities and those from underprivileged backgrounds through the Lord’s Taverners cricket program.
July – Pretty muddy
Thirteen of the Butcher & Barlow Team climbed, walked and slid their way around the Heaton Park Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course, helping to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.
The Team raised an incredible £830 and the Firm generously donated £500 resulting in a total fundraising total amount of £1330.
August – Sandbach 10k sponsorship
For ten years, we’ve taken pride in sponsoring the Sandbach 10k organised the Sandbach Striders running club and were proud to be headline sponsors once again this year.
The event was another huge success with £4215 raised for The Sandbach Pantry, the Sandbach Striders chosen charity for 2024.
September Start of season for Hindley u8’s
We began our sponsorship of the Hindley Juniors FC U8 Eagles for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Hindley Juniors FC was founded in 1991. Originally a summer coaching school, it quickly evolved into a formal football club, establishing a Mini Soccer League for local children. By 1993, it had expanded to 26 teams with nearly 300 players. The club secured a 25-year lease and substantial funding to develop its facilities, including new pitches and a clubhouse. Known for both player and community development, the club continues to thrive, celebrating its 25th season.
September – Start of Elton & Walshaw Bobcats sponsorship
We began our sponsorship of the Elton & Walshaw JFC U11 Bobcats for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Established in 1992, Elton & Walshaw Junior Football Club affords both girls and boys the opportunity to play mini soccer on an organised basis. Since its initial inception the club has expanded considerably to be one of the biggest junior football clubs in the Bury area with teams for all age groups from 6 to 18.
September – Northwich Beer Festival
We were proud to support the Northwich Beer Festival, by sponsoring the Gin Bar.
This community driven festival, run entirely by volunteers, celebrates local beer, gin, cider, and live music, with all proceeds raised supporting local charities and good causes, making a real difference in the community.
September – Bury 10k
Several of our team at our Head Office in Bury laced up their running shoes to take part in the Bury 10k in aid of local charity, The Bury Hospice. With some of our team members having experienced first-hand the incredible support provided by the Bury Hospice for their relatives, we understand how valuable the work they do and the services they provide is.
October – MacMillan Coffee morning
Our Bury, Bramhall, Northwich and Sandbach offices all took part in this year’s Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning raising an incredible £717.68 for the charity.
October – St Lukes Will Week
Throughout St Luke’s Will week, a number of Butcher & Barlow’s Wills specialists generously waived their standard fees for writing a Will, instead requesting a donation to St Luke’s. St Luke Hospice is a charity that provide a range of services to support people living with life limiting illnesses.
November – Will Aid
We have been taking part in the Will Aid charity Will writing scheme for 28 years and over this time we have raised a staggering £90,822.93. Our Wills, Trusts and Estates Team are proud to have been able to do their bit over the years to support Will Aid and raise much needed funds for the worthy charities.
November – Exchange Chambers Charity Dinner
Members of our Butcher & Barlow Family Team attended the Exchange Chambers Charity Dinner. Organised by Exchange Chambers, the event’s entire proceeds were dedicated to supporting Rooprai Spinal Trust, a charity set up to support those affected by spinal chord injuries.
December Christmas Jumper Day
All our 12 offices took part in the 2024 Christmas jumper day raising funds for Save the Children, a charity whose aim is to make sure children keep safe, healthy and learning not just in the UK but all around the world.
December – Support of four charities and community initiated Christmas appeals.
The Teams across our offices chose a local charity or community initiated Christmas appeal to support. Four charities or community groups which were supporting people that would not have had a Christmas dinner, gift or food this Christmas, received donations. Donations were made to:
- The Bury Hospice;
- St Ann’s Hospice;
- Halton Haven Hospice; and
- Symphony Hospitality and Catering community initiative.

From sporting events to charity auctions, community initiatives, and fundraising, 2024 has been a remarkable year of community support for Butcher & Barlow. We are proud to contribute to causes that make a real difference and look forward to continuing our support in 2025.
